Kenya,Nyakwere, an email account from Micaëla Bunder of the Foundation Buru Nyakwera Nederland :
"Last year we received two boxes of books from Biblionef. These were the occasion of so much joy that it is hoped that you will remember the Nyakwere library this year also. The books you donated to us last year were practically "devoured", which is not surprising if you consider that there were, until now, hardly any real books for reading or picture books available.I would like to share with you the following story which Mr Okumu (Head of the Nyakwere Library) told while on a visit to The Netherlands :
When it became known that the new Biblionef books had arrived in the village, the stream of children coming to the library increased. But the rumours about one book especially made children from far and wide rush to the library : a talking book! The story was doing the rounds that there was a book in the Nyakwere Library that could actually speak, and this everyone had to see with their own eyes! I must admit that I did not immediately grasp what this was all about, but it was the book "Peter Rabbitt" in which a number of animals are pictured and a call typical for that animal is activated each time the page is turned. Regrettably the mystery has come and gone - as a result of constant usage the battery in the book has gone flat and it no longer speaks, but the children are still wondering why the "talking" book has stopped talking...
Mr Okumu has made me promise that I would request you to , if you would be willing to donate books to this library again, please include another "talking" book.
